reading this instruction. Currently ours looks exactly like the first photo about (SonyDSCH2NoButton.jpg). What will it look like when it is mostly hidden?

Look inside the opening where the button assembly goes, there is a small quarter-moon shaped chrome piece at the top. Gently push this piece up so that it is mostly hidden from view. If you do not do this YOU WILL break one of the feet that lock the collar in place and the part will not hold onto the camera!

I'm assuming it is the Sony DSC-H2, so I'm going to post the link for that listing repair for you - http://www.darntoothysam.com/products/Sony-Cyber%252dshot-DSC%252dH2-Camera-Shutter-Button-Repair-Service.html
Turn around time is usually less than 1 week, so purchase the camera repair, and send it to them in a well packaged box, and they'll do the rest!

Hi Jen -
Unfortunately you can't replace the shutter button without removing the collar and reinstalling it. I will try to take a picture of the shutter assembly, but basically, the button has a rod under the button, and the rod and spring go in the collar, and the part of the rod that sticks through the collar needs a "C" clip to hold it down, and it is held on the back side of the collar.
So basically the rod can't be held down without installing the "C" clip on the underside of the collar and the only way to install the "C" clip is to remove the collar.
DarnToothySam.com does offer the repair kit for $25 more than just the parts, that would be complete disassembly and installation service!

Hi - if you only need to replace the shutter button (mine popped off) do you still need to untwist the actual shutter button collar? Or can you just buy the kit mentioned above: http://www.darntoothysam.com/products/Sony-Cyber%252dshot-DSC%252dH2-Camera-Shutter-Release-Button-%232.html and attach it without having to untwist the collar and take apart the backside of the camera? thank you for any and all help!
